The Red Prince is a relatively new apple variety that hit Tesco's shelves last season.
The Red Prince Apple is going to dramatically change the apple industry. This particular apple will offer its superb taste, not in the normal autumn but in spring instead. The apple is packed with juice under a deep red skin which makes it ideal for longer term storage through the winter months and putting a smile on the faces of fruit growers.

The English season doesn't start until August and it has been an on-going battle for growers to come up with a variety that holds its freshness and taste whilst in cold storage through the winter months. To keep the flavour, a combination of reduced levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the cold store helps keep that juicy taste.
Kent based Adrian Scripps, one of the largest growers of apples in the UK, exclusively markets this apple.

Red Prince Apples are a natural cross between Golden Delicious and Red Jonathon varieties giving a sweet tasting, tangy, large apple and we think they are simply delightful!

I came across this huge, beautiful, crisp and sweet apple at an orchard in Norfolk. I can't believe it's not a top seller in every supermarket in Britain....best apple I have tasted in my life. As I live a long way from Norfolk I am buying some trees for myself. Next time I am in Norfolk I will be bringing boxes back...great news that it's a good storer.

I'm sorry but I find this apple very disappointing with a bland taste reminiscent of Golden Delicious which is an apple best left on the continent. There are some superb English apples and this isn't one of them

It didn't come from the same tree as mine. Our aunt and uncle used to send us the most delicious apples from Canada in a big box every year and I found out they too were Red Prince. I don't dispute what you are saying, all I can recommend is that people give one a try and see what they think.
